The family room floor

Spent all weekend, Monday and finally today got the furniture moved back.

The floor is finished.

Here are some process pictures. What a lot of work. My friend Cindy helped, I would have never been able to get done without her help.

After the carpet was ripped out.

Didn't get a picture of the primer stage. This is the first color used.

Purr supervised as much as she could but was pretty unimpressed with the whole process.

Next layer we used a sponge roller brush.

Also sponge rollered.

This last color I used the brush and just splattered it on randomly. This was the most fun. I now know how Jackson Pollack felt when he painted...

View from the balcony.

It didn't turn out like I had envisioned it but I do like it.

So one primer coat, one solid color coat, 3 sponged color coats, one splattered coat and two polyurethane coats. So glad it's finished.

Praeludium

Oh my gawd! I am so sore. While J is out of town I decided (with some encouragement from friends) to pull out the carpet in our family room and paint the floors. I'm going to try and paint them similiar to how I painted
this vase . I've been wanting to rip the carpet out for sometime now. Carpet and numerous animals just do not go good together. Instead of the teal color I will be replacing it with a terra cotta red.

I finished this little piece (5x7) the other day. His color is modeled after one of our horses. He was fun to do and I'm sure more of my guys will be showing up in some paintings soon.

Gray skies today after an amazingly awesome lightening storm last night. I sat up until 12 in the dark waiting out the window.

Off to finish up the floor.

Journal pages some in progress

This page was one I used to wipe my brushes off on before cleaning them. Hate wasting paint....

These pages are in progress. Playing with different color combinations to see how well they work together.

Wise old dog

He was the wise old dog.
He had been there forever.
He knew it all.

She was the young pup.
She had only been around a few years.
She was still learning.

Wise old dog always got the best.
Wise old dog was always first.
Wise old dog took what he wanted.

Young pup patiently waited
For what was left.
Young pup didn’t mind being second.
Young pup let wise old dog have what he wanted.

But one day,
Wise old dog took Young pup’s bone
Wise old dog did not chew on the bone
Wise old dog just guarded the bone so
young pup could not have it

Young pup did not think this was fair
Wise old dog had already eaten his bone
And clearly did not want young pups bone

Young pup perked up her ears
Young pup started barking
And raced around the front of the house

Wise old dog who was also the great protector
Of all that he resided over could not let young pup
Protect the place by herself
Wise old dog jumped up from his guard post by the bone
Raced around the house barking and snapping and snarling

Young pup came racing around from the other direction
Grabbed up her bone and disappeared into the brush
Wise old dog came back confused because there had
Been nothing to protect against
Then noticed that young pups bone was missing

Wise old dog knew that he was not as wise as he once was
Wise old dog let out a sigh and laid down
Wise old dog knew that
Young pup was on her way to becoming a
Wise old dog.

Hay fever and a teeny tiny journal

Hay fever season for me.....allergy meds are not doing anything for it. I spend a lot of my day standing over the stove with the tea pot boiling trying to get some relief.....ragweed - argggggh

This little gem is 1 1/2 inches by 1 inch. It was a strip of watercolor paper left over from another project and I started cleaning off my brushes on it. And not being able to throw anything away cut it down I cut it up into 4 3 inch strips and bound them together. Then while watching TV one night drew faces or creatures that were looking out of the paint at me. So much fun. Not all the pages are completely finished and not sure what I'll do with it once it's done but it sure is a lot of fun to make. Enjoy.

Busy weekend

How does a dragonfly fly with 3 1/2 wings?

Another handcrafted journal. this one is 3 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches finished outside edges, pages are 3 by 6. I think I will be placing this on etsy as soon as I get etsy all set up.

Had so much fun with these colors on the vase (see last entry) I tried them on a wooden box.

And a sympathy card for Mary's family. Mary would have loved this card. She collected angels.

Off to do more artwork.
